Market Update
- Market was strongly negative on the back of the new Covid variant Omicron
- Market taking a cautious approach to the new variant and waiting to see the full impact it could have on the economies. Lots of uncertainty around causing the market to drop. Some pharmaceutical companies calling for new vaccines to be produced to cope with this new threat. However evidence so far shows that the variant is as contagious as the delta variant, but also the current vaccines will be able to cope.
- USA also stating that they will continue to tap their SPR to ensure prices stay lower at the pumps. Relief is already being felt at the pumps as a result of the coordinated action to tap reserves and the new covid variant
- OPEC+ will consider whether to continue with its program to increase production by 400k barrels a day in light of the new influences on the markets price.
- Day one of the EU starting negotiations with Iran over it nuclear power program are said to have been positive. The USA having a more subdued role, however not without influence.
